Joseph “Harry” Hanna, III

Attorney

Harry joined the Belser Law Firm after concluding a judicial clerkship with the Honorable J. Mark Hayes, S.C. Circuit Court Judge for the 7th Circuit of South Carolina. During Harry’s clerkship, he drafted numerous memoranda and briefs on a variety of legal issues ranging from the application of “stand your ground” pretrial hearings to certification for class actions. He also worked on pre-trial motions for several complex, multimillion-dollar business court cases. In preparing for these motions, Harry engaged in research on novel interpretations of the scope of errata sheet revisions to deposition testimony and the invocation of the defense of advice of counsel.

Harry earned his law degree from the University of South Carolina School of Law. While in law school, he participated in the Judicial Observation and Experience (JOE) program with JusticeGeorge C. James, Jr. of the S.C. Supreme Court. As part of the program, he observed Supreme Court proceedings and assisted in drafting briefs on matters before the Court. He also served as a summer clerk to the South Carolina Attorney General’s Consumer Protection and Antitrust Division as well as the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers. In addition, he enrolled in a dual degree program to obtain his master’s degree in Earth and Environmental Resources Management through the University’s School of Earth, Ocean and Environment. As part of that degree, Harry took courses in coastal zone management, environmental impact assessments and marine ecology.

Harry received a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Studies as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Government from Wofford College. As a freshman, he was appointed to the college judicial commission and served as a student judge for the duration of his college career.

Outside of work, Harry enjoys spending time with friends and family. He also enjoys outdoor activities like hiking, camping, and rock climbing.
